New England Patriots sign OL Cole Croston to practice squad, release DB Davis Jones

Cole Croston was gone a day and a half.

Now,  the second-year offensive lineman’s back.

The Patriots signed Croston to their practice squad Thursday after cutting him on Tuesday. New England released defensive back David Jones to make room. Croston had been promoted to the 53-man roster from the practice squad in mid-September. H

After making the 53-man roster outright as an undrafted free agent last season, Croston was let go on cutdown day this year. He then quickly returned as a member of the team’s practice squad. Croston’s played in two games this season and practiced Thursday.

Jones spent the entire 2017 season on the practice squad after signing as an rookie free agent that spring. He was cut this July, then brought back to the practice squad on Sept. 26 before being let go to make room for Croston.
